It's time again for the Poet's Seat Poetry Contest! The contest is open to residents of Frankin County and has two categories: Adult and Young Poet (ages 12-18).
Guidelines:
Submit up to three poems of your choice; number pages of multi-page poems. Only unpublished poems may be submitted. Previous winners (first place) may not submit poems.
Indicate “Adult” or “Young Poet,” and Young Poets write your age on the front of the sheet where the poem appears, lower right hand corner, circled. No identifying information on front of sheet, where poem appears. All poets, on reverse side, write your name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address, if available. Poems will not be returned. Submit on white paper, printed clearly in ink or typed in plain typeface. Notification of receipt of entry will be via email, unless SASE is included with entry.
First Prize, Adult: Poet’s Seat Chair for one year and name engraved on plaque; hand-crafted, poet’s ceramic platter; a night at the Poetry Ridge Bed and Breakfast; and a $20 book store gift certificate.
All other prizes: 2nd and 3rd Place Adult, as well as top 4 Youth Poems

Do you have a sweetheart who loves mysteries??? If so, please come to the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library Pre-Valentine’s Day Book Sale on Friday, January 27, from 10 am to 4:30 pm, and Saturday, January 28, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, at the Greenfield Public Library, downstairs in the basement. We have many mystery offerings as well as lots of other books at bargain prices!
We always have a nice selection of Children’s Books. Hardcover books are $2.00 each and paperbacks are $1.00. How can you beat it? We also have many music and book and movie DVDs and CDs for only $1.00 each. Customers love coming to our sales because we have a variety of books that are well sorted and easy-to-find on the shelves. And don’t forget, you can always shop in our Bargain area where you can fill a bag for $2.00. Please bring your own bag to fill. If you don’t have a bag we’ll be happy to provide a bag for a small donation.
The Friends’ Book Sale is an important fundraiser for the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library. The sale raises money for library enrichment programs such as the Homebound Delivery Program, the Poets Seat Poetry Contest, and ALL of the Children’s Programs. The Book Sale provides an opportunity to stock up on winter reading while helping the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library continue to maintain the enrichment programs and services that make our library such a special place.

The library will be closed on Monday, January 16, to commemorate Martin Luther King day. We will reopen at 9:30am on Tuesday, January 17.
The Mayor and Greenfield Library Trustees are pleased to announce the hiring of Ellen R. Boyer as Library Director for the Town of Greenfield. She will begin her duties on Monday, February 6, 2012. She brings to the position twenty plus years of professional library experience. Her most recent post for the past 10 years has been as Director of Mark Skinner Library in Manchester, Vermont. She is experienced in community outreach, fund raising, project management, budget and staff development and strategic planning. She holds a Master of Library & Information Science degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA; a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Millersville State University in Millersville, PA; and a Diplome d’Etudes Francaises, 2eme Degree, I.E.F.E, Universite Paul-Valery Montpellier III, in Montpelier, France. She is a recipient of the 2003 New York Times Librarian of the Year for outstanding community service.
Speaking of the holidays... GPL will be closed Friday, December 23, at noon through Monday, December 26. The library will reopen on Tuesday, December 27 at 9:30. The following week, GPL will close at noon on Friday, December 30, and will reopen Tuesday, January 3, at 9:30.
